From 1911 to 1919 the group met in a rented upstairs room in King Street, Warrington. Then, in 1919 they found a chapel in West Street, Warrington, which they rented. After many years of hard work, the Saints managed to purchase the chapel in West Street in 1925. During the later years of the church being in West Street, it was obvious that the building was in great need of repair, so in September 1951 an offer was made to purchase a plot of land in Fitzherbert Street, but due to a clause forbidding the sale of the land to a religious body, there was a delay, but through prayer the land was purchased in 1952. A wooden building was bought and put where the school room is now, and the toilet block and kitchen were built on it, and we moved into it in 1953 when the Mayor of the time, Councillor Taylor performed the opening ceremony. After much sacrifice and dedication to the work by the saints, the present chapel was built, and in 1955 the church was consecrated for the worship of God by Brother W Wallace Smith, the President/Prophet of the church at the time. The old wooden building was replaced by the present schoolroom in 1967, and in 1970 the church was improved when the iron girders in the roof of the chapel were covered by the suspended ceiling, the floor was replaced and the rear of the church was partitioned off, forming the foyer instead of walking straight itno the church. |
